Last-Minute Christmas Shopping

by sterndal

I just hate last-minute Christmas shopping. It’s so stressful. A year ago, I made a terrible mistake of forgetting to buy a toy as a christmas present for one of my nephews. I thought my list was already complete (including my ever-growing-list of god children) so I was horrified when I realized that I had nothing for Mac-mac. His cousins would be receiving toy cars from me and it would be way too obvious that I wasn’t able to prepare something for him if I’ll just give him cash. Besides, giving money to a 4-year old boy is not exactly appropriate. His mom told me I’m going to make his son cry! Oh no! The last thing I would want to do on Christmas Eve is to break a little boy’s heart! So on the 19th of December, I braved the heavily trafficked streets of Manila and I endured the over-crowded mall of Robinson’s to buy a gift for my nephew. Problem with me is that I easily get impatient if the line in the counter is too long. Especially if I see that the person in front is fumbling for his money or if he’s undecided to purchase or not :( I wanted to sigh out loud. What’s wrong with these people? They perfectly know that everyone’s in a hurry and yet they act as if they are just walking in the park! Luckily, I was able to keep my cool :) told myself “hey it’s Christmas!” hehe. So this year, I’m saving myself from all the troubles. I made sure my list is REALLY complete and I even prepared some extra gifts. And also, I realized I should always keep my cool even if it’s not Christmas lol! Hope the same for all you guys :)

cheers!

analysis of an imbecile mind

by sterndal

I couldn’t sleep last night. I tried real hard but I just couldn’t. I’ve been staring at the ceiling for almost two hours already but my eyes are still wide open. The reason? My electric fan is under repair so I was kind of soaking up on my own sweat and it’s so hot and I just can’t do without a fan :( So instead of making friends with the mosquitoes, I decided to examine my life and here are my hideous findings:

* I’ve been working like a dog since I was 17 but I’m still poor :) [wow!]

* I’m growing old and I still haven’t tried wearing short shorts and tube tops :) [raise the roof!]

* I’m starting to hate the single life :) [yeah, right! couldn't agree more]

* I’ve been an active member of Friendster since 2004 but I only have 145 friends. How come the other members got at least 500? [unfortunately, friendster is a major part of my so-called social life hehe]

* I realized that I have been avoiding a lot of office gatherings lately :) [just can't stand office politics and cranky co-workers]

* and I also realized that I want to conquer the world of blogging [huh?!] and hopefully - - meet the hot hunks of the international communities hihihihi [JOKE!]

I caught myself mid-thought and frowned. Is my life really like that?!

*Sigh

I hope my fan gets repaired soon…

Blind date, anyone?

by sterndal

Just yesterday, I received an e-mail from my college friend Andrea. I was really excited to hear from her  after more than two years of not seeing each other. I was pretty sure she has a lot of stories to share so I immediately opened the message. To my disappointment, she was just asking if I could meet this guy who is searching for a new girlfriend. Huh?! She arranged a blind date for me! EEEEEEH! What’s with her? Has she gone nuts? She didn’t even ask if I’m still available or if I’m currently seeing someone…but of course, she isn’t forcing me. It’s just that…sigh…never mind. She said she’s just trying her luck on me. She already asked a lot of friends to do it but they all declined.

eh bakit kaya hindi na lng xa? !

You see, blind date isn’t really my cup of tea. In fact, I don’t even drink teas! I want mango juice! (haha! bobo!). Seriously, no. I don’t like blind dates. I am “allergic” to a lot of things and one of them is blind dating. You never know what you’re going to get into and it’s scary. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about date-rapes, yah know? Trouble is, I don’t know how to say ‘no’ in such a way that she won’t get offended :( Andrea has always been nice and sweet to me especially during college years. And if someone is nice to me, I return the favor by being doubly nice.

Just in case somebody out there is looking for a date or a blind date to be exact, please do contact me (*giggles). As if, somebody would give a damn haha!

What a Man!

by sterndal

I am one of those millions of people all over the world who rejoiced over Obama’s victory. I feel that it is a sign that racial discrimination is finally coming to an end (hopefully). However, I couldn’t help but admire McCain for his sportmanship and for his courage to accept his defeat.

It’s natural to feel some disappointment. Though we fell short, the failure is mine, not yours…We have come to the end of a long journey…The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly.

Wow! What a man!

In his concession speech, he didn’t accused anyone of cheating nor he blamed others for not being elected as the United States President. Instead, he encouraged all the Americans to support Obama! I think it simply shows that he is indeed a good man with the best intentions for his country. Forgive me for being skeptical but I doubt if Filipino politicians can do that :(

I don’t usually listen to speeches and I’m not really into politics. Either I find myself falling asleep or thinking of other things but McCain’s speech was really amazing. To say the least, it was ‘heart-felt’. Makes me wanna think that there’s more to life than all these pursuit of money, fame and power.

But then, it’s just me … my opinion. So don’t take it seriously.

Cheers!

Friendship Profile

by sterndal

Just a few facts about me and my friends

Rhea: Full-time housewife, mother of two
Belinda: Civil Engineer, just got married
Mary: Industrial Engineer, a bride-to-be
Evelyn: Content Analyst, a certified old maid

Classes we used to hate: Physical Education because we were super lazy to bring our PE uniforms lolz. And need I say? - Physics! haha! No. We never liked scientific experiments. It bored us to death. But let me clarify that the teacher was really gooood! kami lang talaga pasaway hehe! Would you believe that two years later after ‘the incident in her class’, she saw me in my college (PLM) uniform and she seemed very happy! She even told me to study hard :) Teachers, indeed, are our second parents…aawwww!

Teacher we love: Ms. Lanete, our teacher in World History. She has this way of narrating World War II in a-not-so-serious-manner. I remember as she was discussing the horrors of Death March, there were a lot of “AAaaaahhs” reflecting the students’ amazement. It was like she’s just telling the story of a war-flick movie with lots of special effects! We simply love her! Had it been another teacher, we could have fallen asleep hehe. By the way, we never skipped her class :)

Fave merienda: Fish balls, kikiam, tokneneng, McDonalds

Fave hang-out: Mary’s house, Robinson’s Place

Shameful acts: (1) The Physics Crime (2) One time after the class, (I wasn’t IN for this) they headed off to Mary’s house and drank Gilbeys. They wanted to know how alcoholic drinks taste like. Five years later, I got my first taste of beer. I was already working and it was awful! Makes me wonder why lots of men love to get drunk?

Our music: Mary likes “Points of View”, Belinda is a fan of BackStreet Boys (Nick Carter), Rhea loves WestLife, and me, I like Dreaming of you, Selena’s version.

What I miss: endless conversations about our crushes, dreams and ambitions

Picture! Picture!    That photo below was taken during our graduation day! We only wore school uniforms but it was a fun night :) From right to left: Me, Belinda, Mary and Rhea. After that, we went to different universities. They all took up engineering courses while I got a scholarship for Business Administration. Initially, I wanted to become an English teacher, but I realized that I wasn’t cut out for that.

So there, so much for high school life!

Next time, iba naman! haha!

Cheers!
