The following is a list of all entries from the memoirs of an old maid category.
Maid Of Honor
I went out with my high school buddy, Mary, and guess what? She’s the happiest woman in the whole wide world! The exact date is already confirmed and she finally got her Papa’s elusive “YES”
She and her boyfriend of four years are about to tie the knots this August 2009 and she wants me to be her maid of honor
Yehey! I am very happy for her and I am sooo excited for myself. I’ve attended two church weddings before but this is the first time that I’m going to be a maid of honor. Wow!
What makes me more excited is that she’s also asking if I could assist her in the wedding preparations. As if I know a lot about weddings hehe! But “sure, sure, sure!” I wanna help in choosing the perfect bridal gown
Mary also wants me to add some weight. Have I mentioned before that I’m skinny? Oh yes, I am. The bride-to-be wants me to wear something sexy on her special day. Wahahaha! Joke.
More than anything else, I am very flattered that Mary didn’t forget me. I know for sure, she already met a lot of new friends after high school. But the mere fact that she still considers me as one of her most treasured friends means a lot to me, sob! hihihihi! Isn’t that amazing?
And by the way, is maid of honor english for abay? ‘Cuz I’m not quite sure lol!
A Man-To-Man Agreement
Just when I thought I already escaped Andrea’s crazy plans, I found myself sitting in a coffee shop, sipping choco latte, and waiting for my blind date to arrive. I know I’ve mentioned in a previous post that blind date is not my cup of tea, but sad to say, I am now eating my own words. Hah! The reason for my sudden change of mind is simple: we had an agreement that this would be the first and the last. She said if it doesn’t work for me, she won’t bother me again. Ever.
Perhaps, you’ll find it weird that I am giving in to something that I really don’t want to do, but I’m finding it hard to turn down Andrea. We’ve been good pals for more than seven years and I trust her a lot. She’s the happy girl whose favorite passtime is to play cupid. So, after more than a month of non-stop cajoling, she finally convinced me that it won’t hurt to give it a try. She’s very persistent. As in to the highest level!
We actually had a small fight over this. I told Andrea that I’m better off with online dating because I am able to choose who I want to chat with, unlike in blind dates, it’s like “Surprise! We’re on a date and we don’t like each other!” Which she disapprovingly questioned. She gave me a lecture on why that virtual thing is bad for my health well-being. Haha! In the end, I realized she has a point. My blind date details coming up soon! Pag sinipag ako
Last-Minute Christmas Shopping
I just hate last-minute Christmas shopping. It’s so stressful. A year ago, I made a terrible mistake of forgetting to buy a toy as a christmas present for one of my nephews. I thought my list was already complete (including my ever-growing-list of god children) so I was horrified when I realized that I had nothing for Mac-mac. His cousins would be receiving toy cars from me and it would be way too obvious that I wasn’t able to prepare something for him if I’ll just give him cash. Besides, giving money to a 4-year old boy is not exactly appropriate. His mom told me I’m going to make his son cry! Oh no! The last thing I would want to do on Christmas Eve is to break a little boy’s heart! So on the 19th of December, I braved the heavily trafficked streets of Manila and I endured the over-crowded mall of Robinson’s to buy a gift for my nephew. Problem with me is that I easily get impatient if the line in the counter is too long. Especially if I see that the person in front is fumbling for his money or if he’s undecided to purchase or not :( I wanted to sigh out loud. What’s wrong with these people? They perfectly know that everyone’s in a hurry and yet they act as if they are just walking in the park! Luckily, I was able to keep my cool
told myself “hey it’s Christmas!” hehe. So this year, I’m saving myself from all the troubles. I made sure my list is REALLY complete and I even prepared some extra gifts. And also, I realized I should always keep my cool even if it’s not Christmas lol! Hope the same for all you guys
cheers!
